Love Island USA star talks ‘obstacles’ as he lays bare mental health battle

Love Island USA Season 6 star Aaron Evans is working to help people receive the mental health resources they need.

Since the dating reality show has wrapped, Aaron has been using his platform to bring awareness to mental health and offer support to those struggling with their mental health.

Aaron and his brother have also done sponsored bicycle rides and hitchhiking for UK mental health charity, Mind, as well as for the hospice who cared for their grandad ahead of his passing.

Aaron, who has also appeared on Britain’s The Traitors, revealed to The Mirror US that his own personal struggles with mental health inspired him to launch his philanthropic efforts.

“So we initially decided to do it because we wanted to raise money for Mind, which is the mental health charity, because we wanted to support a charity that supported other people with mental health issues,” Aaron told The Mirror US.

“I had a few problems after coming off of Love Island, and I was lucky enough to have the luxury of having a therapist that helped me through, but I also can imagine it’s super difficult not having that support there” Aaron explained. “So I just wanted to kind of potentially just give back to other people that don’t have that luxury or the like a therapist at hand.”

Aaron dated Kaylor Martin on Love Island USA, but the pair ultimately called it quits after leaving the villa, as they watched the footage back from their time on the program during an explosive show reunion.

He admitted that though he was in therapy after Love Island USA, he explained that he had actually begun seeing a therapist before the show to help him with his mental health.

Further opening up about his therapy journey, Aaron explained: “I think some of the best advice that my like therapist ever to gave me was surround yourself with people you love, and do the things that you love. And I have my brother there, and I was doing something that I essentially loved, which was just being outside and, like, exercising. And I think it’s not going to be an overnight situation, but just doing that will just help you. And it’s baby steps moving towards a place where you will eventually, like overcome it, or at least it will get a bit easier. And I think that’s where I’m at.”
