‘You Need Him There’: Criminal Minds: Evolution Cast Teases Spencer Reid’s Return at a Pivotal Moment
Some of the stars of Criminal Minds: Evolution discussed Gubler’s return as Spencer in a recent interview with TV Insider. They could not share specific details about how the character returns, though Aisha Tyler (Lewis) described it as a “family reunion.” Adam Rodriguez (Alvez) teased that it was going to be exciting for the fans to see, as it was just as much so behind the scenes for the cast to have Gubler on the set.
“You’ll see him, and I’ll say this, it’s nice to see him. I think everybody will appreciate seeing him and we all enjoyed the time that he was there with us,” Rodriguez said. “It was good to see him in real life, and it’ll be, I think, nice for the fans to see him pop up as well.”

Kirsten Vangsness (Garcia) went on to describe the timing of Spencer’s big return. She said that it was the right time for it to happen, as it made sense from a storyline standpoint to have the character reappear after an event that can “tear the environment asunder.” The only downside, it would seem, is that fans may be left wanting more, as the guest role is limited to one episode.
“I think one of the reasons why people love Criminal Minds is that — you come for the gory, scary, spooky horror aspect, sure people come for that, but people also come for the family dynamic and the ride or dies and that community that we’ve built, that we’ve created as people and then these characters have created themselves,” she said. “So whenever things happen that tear the environment asunder, for better or for worse, it’s Avengers Assemble in the biggest way we can. So this was definitely a — you need him there to, of course, of course, he would be there for these big, pivotal life-changing experiences. And so it really felt very satisfying and I think it’ll feel really satisfying to the fans just to have his presence there. And I’m sure everybody wants more of it. Who wouldn’t? He’s delightful. But we take what we can get.”
Spencer Reid’s Return Is Coming Up in Criminal Minds: Evolution
Criminal Minds: Evolution just killed off a longtime character in the show’s latest episode, and fans may be wondering if this is the big event that leads to Spencer reappearing. It’s possible that he could appear for a memorial service scene, as this would seemingly fit the bill about what Vangsness described. This might be the case, but it hasn’t been confirmed, and it’s possible that Spencer’s return could happen after another upcoming event on the show. It’s not known at this time exactly which episode Spencer will be featured in, so viewers will just have to tune in.
