Maura Higgins swaps Love Island villa for Hollywood in surprising new role
Maura Higgins’ stint on Love Island cemented her as the queen of reality TV, and now she has her sights set firmly on the big screen.
The 33-year-old is set to head to Hollywood to star in an upcoming film directed by Michael Head in a surprising career change for the reality TV star.
Maura has already made quite the splash in the US, hosting the American version of Love Island after appearing on the 2019 season of the ITV show as a contestant.
The Longford native is set to play a character called Rose in the new movie, titled The Spin.
She will be joined by a host of stars on the project, including former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, Hardy Bucks frontman Owen Colgan, Derry Girl’s star Tara Lynne O’Neill and Game Of Thrones actor Brenock O’Connor.
The Spin is written by Colin Broderick and Mark McCausland. The film’s director Michael took to social media to share the premise of the film, saying: ‘A year back I directed a delightful fun little tale about two loveable idiots in Ireland.’
He explained it will be ‘very different to my normal projects but full of heart and charm’, adding he is ‘delighted’ that the film has sold out at the Belfast Film Festival.
A source close to Maura told The Sun that she is ‘the perfect fit’ for the comedy. ‘She started work on The Spin over the weekend in Belfast and really impressed the producers.
‘Maura throws herself into any new projects and is always keen to learn’, they said, adding that: ‘The film could open a lot of new doors for Maura and it’s a very exciting time.’
There has been no official release date confirmed for the film, but we can’t wait to watch it!
