Zac Tells Karen That He Has Love For Her NOT That He’s In Love With Her!
Part Two: Is Zach Still Giving Karen False Hope?
Okay, folks. This is part two of my breakdown following the video I uploaded yesterday about Zach and Karen, specifically the idea that Zach keeps giving Karen false hope. In next week’s trailer, there’s a clip where Zach says something along the lines of:
“Karen, I’ll always have love for you no matter where our lives take us.”
Now, here’s the issue. That one line has sparked over 100 comments on my last video, and a lot of people said I went too hard on Zach or that I misinterpreted what he said. But here’s the thing—if you actually listen to comprehend instead of listening just to react, then you’ll see I wasn’t twisting his words.
Zach did not say, “I love you, Karen.” What he said was, “I’ll always have love for you.” And I acknowledged that in the video. I understand the difference, and so do most fans. But here’s why I called Zach out:
Zach Should Know Better
If you’ve been watching Sistas closely—whether week by week or binging—you know this isn’t the first time Zach has said something like that. He’s repeated it multiple times across the seasons:
-
“I’ll always love Karen.”
-
“We were together three years, but I’m not in love with her anymore.”
He says it with good intentions, but Karen constantly misinterprets his words. She takes them as signs that he still wants her, that there’s still a chance. And that’s why I went in on Zach—because at this point, he should know better.
Karen has a history of twisting these moments into proof that Zach still loves her. She’s told Andy, “You weren’t there. The way he looked at me…” That’s the problem. Zach keeps unintentionally planting seeds that Karen refuses to let go of.
Fatima Already Warned Him
Remember what Fatima told Zach before, back during their investigation around Gary and the murder board? She basically said, “You love the ego boost.” As in, Zach denies it, but he likes the idea of women fighting over him—Karen still chasing him even though he’s with Fatima.
Now, I don’t think Zach does this with malicious intent, but the way it plays out is selfish. It’s almost like, “The daughter Karen and I were supposed to have isn’t here anymore, but let me leave a little breadcrumb so Karen still feels something for me.”
On top of that, Zach might feel some type of way seeing Aaron with Karen and the baby. He can’t have that family with her anymore, but he can keep a hold over her emotions by reminding her he’ll “always have love” for her. That creates unnecessary tension between Karen and Aaron.
The Writers vs. The Characters Debate
A lot of people in the comments told me, “Jeremy, stop blaming Zach. Blame the writers!” And while I get that, I don’t think it’s a strong argument. Here’s why:
Yes, the writers—whether Tyler Perry himself or his team—are responsible for these storylines. They’re the ones writing characters in circles. Perfect example: Sabrina spent two seasons obsessing over becoming a mom, begging for sperm donors, then suddenly switched to being wild and carefree. That’s the writing.
But when we watch Sistas, we don’t see the writers—we see the characters. It’s natural for fans to get mad at the characters first. Just like in a bank robbery: the mastermind plans it, but the people holding the guns in the bank are the ones the cops go after first. Eventually, blame might circle back to the planner, but in the moment, the ones acting it out take the heat.
So yes, I can critique the writers. But I also have every right to critique the characters, because they’re the faces we see on screen. What wouldn’t be valid is if I attacked the actors—Devale as Zach, Crystal as Fatima, Ebony as Karen, etc. That would be unfair because they’re just doing their jobs.
Why This Scene Matters
I’m not mad that Zach went over to see Karen. I understand why he did. But the way he handled it is the problem. He keeps leaving breadcrumbs, little hints that Karen interprets as hope. And that keeps her stuck.
People also commented that trailers can be misleading. And I agree—I say that almost every time in my trailer breakdowns. Sound bites get shuffled around, and sometimes the dialogue doesn’t match the scene we’re shown. But in this case, we literally see Zach’s lips moving when he says, “I’ll always have love for you.” So, I think it’s legit.
The bigger question is: does Aaron overhear it? Does he cut on the baby monitor and catch the whole conversation, or just part of it? Does he turn it off because he can’t handle hearing more? That uncertainty makes the whole scene even more interesting.
Final Thoughts
So let me be clear:
-
I know exactly what Zach said.
-
I know what he meant.
-
But I also know how Karen will hear it—and that’s the problem.
This isn’t about misquoting him. This is about Zach repeating the same pattern that always gives Karen false hope. And as much as we understand the intention behind his words, he should know by now how she interprets them.
At the end of the day, this is less about Zach’s love for Karen and more about the cycle the writers keep putting these characters in. Still, as fans, when we watch the show, our first reaction is always to the characters we see on screen. That’s just how storytelling works.
So yeah, I’ll probably hold off on saying more until the actual episode drops. But something tells me this scene is going to get people talking even more than the trailer already has.
