Will The Events of Madea’s Destination Wedding Lead Into Joe’s College Road Trip?

Is Madea’s Destination Wedding Setting Up Joe’s College Road Trip?

Alright, folks! We know Madea’s Destination Wedding is set to drop sometime this year, and as the title suggests, it’s all about a destination wedding—well, more like a destination vacation situation. (Try saying that three times fast!)

The whole family, along with their friends, will be heading to the Bahamas for Tiffany’s shotgun wedding. But while this movie is on the horizon, it seems like Joe’s College Road Trip won’t be arriving on Netflix this year. My guess? It’s probably slated for a 2026 release. That brings up an interesting question: Will Madea’s Destination Wedding be a standalone movie, or will its events directly set up Joe’s College Road Trip?

How Could the Two Films Connect?

With Madea and the crew traveling from Atlanta to the Bahamas, you can bet there’s going to be plenty of comedic chaos. But what if, by the end of the movie, Tiffany doesn’t actually get married? Maybe things fall apart, and Joe—having had such a wild time—decides he’s ready for another adventure.

That’s where Joe’s College Road Trip could come in. Joe might casually mention that BJ, his grandson, needs to start visiting colleges. Maybe this trip gives him the travel bug, and he sees it as the perfect excuse to hit the road again. It would be a fun way to set up the next film, especially since we got casting details about Joe’s College Road Trip way back in late 2023.

What We Know About Joe’s College Road Trip

The movie centers on Joe taking his grandson, BJ, on a road trip to explore college options. Since BJ grew up in a privileged, mostly white school environment (thanks to his father, Brian), he hasn’t been exposed to much Black culture. This trip could be a way for Joe to introduce him to experiences and perspectives he wouldn’t get in his usual circles.

A key question will be: Does BJ end up choosing an elite private university, or will he opt for an HBCU? Either way, it’s clear that Joe’s College Road Trip will explore themes of identity, culture, and comedy, much like previous Madea films.

Can Madea Even Leave the Country?

One hilarious thing to consider—how in the world is Madea even allowed to travel outside the U.S.? Doesn’t she have a bunch of warrants against her? Knowing this crew, there are only two possibilities:

  1. Brian, being a lawyer, finds some kind of legal loophole to make it happen.
  2. Madea just fakes a passport, because, let’s be real, that’s exactly something she’d do.

Final Thoughts

So, do you think Madea’s Destination Wedding will serve as a setup for Joe’s College Road Trip? Also, is BJ even in this upcoming movie? It would make sense for him to be there—it’s his sister’s wedding, after all.
