Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Season 8 Episode 3 Review: Up Close And Personal
This week’s Sistas (Season 8, Episode 3) titled “Up Close and Personal” had its highs and lows but was definitely a step up from last week’s slow pace. The episode kicked off with Andy finally spilling the beans to her friends about the blackmail situation with Gary. While there was a lot of intense dialogue, it felt repetitive at times, especially as the ladies at the penthouse debated who had the motive to stab Gary. The back-and-forth dragged on, making it feel like a filler episode in parts.
Despite this, the law firm scenes stood out as a breath of fresh air. It was great seeing the group dynamics return to an earlier vibe, reminiscent of Season 1, with the girls checking in on each other in a genuine way. The scenes brought back that classic sister-circle feel, with Sabrina being the optimist, Danny the straight shooter, Karen as the mediator, and Andy venting her problems. This setup allowed for a more refreshing look into their friendships, albeit with some questionable dialogue—particularly the group’s strange sense of guilt or potential mourning over Gary, a character whose toxic behavior has long caused them grief.
As the episode wrapped up, the scenes in the law firm added some much-needed energy. Fatima’s interaction with Hayden was entertaining, especially as Robin arrived unexpectedly, catching Hayden off guard. Robin’s supportive stance toward Fatima and his call for a more “unorthodox” approach in the firm set the stage for potential tension in future episodes. Hayden’s reaction was comedic yet tense, with Robin subtly reminding him of his failed attempt to push him out.
In the end, while the episode faltered with some unnecessary guilt over Gary and the repetitive penthouse scenes, it still moved the plot forward, especially with Robin’s return. It may not have been the most thrilling episode, but it added layers to both the characters and the drama that lies ahead. Here’s hoping next week picks up the pace even more and delivers on the suspense that’s been building.
