The reign of terror of Gerrard begins in the preview for the premiere of Season 8 of ‘9-1-1’
A New Captain at Chicago’s Firehouse 51: What Changes Will It Bring?
A new chief means a new way of doing things. This is true in all areas, including fire stations. As Firehouse 51 deals with its new boss in Chicago Fire, 9-1-1 has a new captain. Gerrard has returned to lead the 118 after Bobby’s departure, and according to the promotional images released, his tenure will change things. Now we can learn a bit from a preview courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, which finds him inspecting the work done by the members of the 118. It’s equally unsettling and hilarious.
Firefighter Wilson, Eddie, and Buck: The New Captain’s Critiques
“Firefighter Wilson, your boots are worn out. They should be polished for a greater shine,” Gerrard critiques Hen, commenting on her grooming skills. Speaking during a panel with The Paley Center for Media, Aisha Hinds hinted at “her shocking return [that] later gives Hen chills.” But for now, she plays along and promises to redo it. Gerrard moves on to Chimney. He points the phlegm directly onto the floor Chim had cleaned and uses that as a metric for his cleanliness. “On an even floor, that would be evenly spread. Instead, it’s globular. Unsatisfactory! Do it again!” he comments. What?
The next victim is Eddie, who receives criticism for buying expensive supplies. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Tim Minear stated: “Eddie was in the military,” so he’s used to strict authority figures. As a result, he fares better with Gerrard, but there might be another reason. “Nice mustache, by the way,” the captain compliments Eddie’s new mustache. Since Gerrard has one, Eddie might earn his favor as long as he keeps it.
Buck Struggles to Accept Gerrard’s Leadership
The captain approaches Buck, who has included rings in a hose. That might have been fine during Bobby’s time, but not under Gerrard. It’s been three months since Bobby resigned, and the new captain is changing every corner of the fire station. When Buck responds, he gets punished. “Spread the crap! One week!” Gerrard shouts. “I already got the assignment to go to the latrine, sir,” Buck replies, revealing this isn’t the first time he’s been caught with an infraction. Speaking at the Paley Center for Media panel, Oliver Stark revealed why Buck resists Gerrard’s authority and what he earns, saying:
“A leadership change has brought out that old self. And he’s rebelling a bit as we move through this season, and not with much success. He cleans a lot of bathrooms; he gets really good at that.”
