Sheryl Swoopes Takes Another Shot At Caitlin Clark: ‘That’s Not Dominating’
WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes continues to be highly-critical of Caitlin Clark.
On Tuesday’s episode of “Gil’s Arena,” the Hall of Fame forward/guard admitted that while Clark’s 19.5 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds per are impressive they’re not dominant.
“Those are hell of a numbers,” Swoopes said. “But to me that’s not dominating.”
The three-time MVP even went as far as saying that Angel Reese deserves more credit for her rookie season than Clark does despite lifting her team to the playoffs.
“To me Angel may have exceeded expectations, even more so than Caitlin,” Swoopes argued. “When you’re drafted No. 1, you’re drafted No. 1 for a reason.”
This isn’t the first time Sheryl has gone out of her way to minimize Clark’s accomplishments.
Back in January she incorrectly said that the former Hawkeyes star was in her fifth season in college and that she was stat-padding which watered down her scoring record.
Swoopes also claimed that the Indiana Fever would make the postseason even without Clark on the team (which got a rise out of Stephen A. Smith).
It’s not clear why things seem so personal for Swoopes when it comes to CC but something about her success appears to really get under her skin.
Swoopes is one of the greatest ladies to ever play the game and a pioneering force who opened the doors for a lot of today’s women athletes to be where they are today — and that shouldn’t be forgotten.
But there’s no reason why she shouldn’t be able to give Caitlin her flowers when its warranted.
