One ‘Love Is Blind’ Season 8 Cast Member Lost the Perfect Happily Ever After

During the first few episodes of Season 8, Love Is Blind gave us some promising dates that we were convinced would lead to proposals. As customary, the guys and girls are seen dating multiple people at once. Mason Horacek had his eyes set on Madison Errichiello and Meg Fink. We, as outsiders, knew that the right pick was Meg. Not just because Madison was better suited for Alex Brown, but because Mason and Meg had an instant connection. They had similarities that made them a perfect pair. But Mason’s biggest fear was leaving the experiment alone. So he overcompensated.

As much as we wanted to shake him out of his fear, he should have gone all-in on Meg and let Madison go from the jump. She had Alex. But Mason neglected the fact that the women would potentially compare notes in the living quarters. And that’s what they did. We all want to be wanted. We all want to be chosen. So when Meg learned that she wasn’t chosen outright and was more or less a default option, she was out. Gone was the happily ever after Mason dreamed of.

Poor Mason!

So, let’s backtrack a bit. Mason’s two options in the experiment were Meg and Madison. He didn’t know what else was going on outside of his dates. All he knew was he had similar yet different connections with both women. Now, the trouble with Love Is Blind is also a reflection of dating in the real world. Yes, it’s normal to date multiple people at once. In the pods, it’s just amplified and exacerbated to a point that brings added pressure. You’re not dating and letting your closest loved ones know about how it’s proceeding. You’re doing this for all the world to see. Failure is not an option.

In the women’s quarters, Madison told Meg that Mason was committed to her, which is what he said to Meg. And, both women decided together that Mason was no longer trustworthy as a potential husband. Which is a shame. His minor mistake was preventable, and should not have been a dealbreaker. Mason truly was a gift; he acknowledged his flaws in his youth, flipping it on its head, and triumphing today. Everything we learned about Mason in the pods made us believe he would be the perfect partner. He just neglected other people’s feelings in a game where feelings are important.

When he officially broke up with Madison, she was hurt, even though she had someone to go back to. Rather than cutting her losses, she used her hurt to taint Meg’s impression of Mason. Then, for Meg to be so controlled by her pride and ego to dump Mason when she could have had someone she was simpatico with is dumbfounding. Mason’s dates with Madison were fine. Mason’s dates with Meg were out of this world. You couldn’t have found two more perfect partners. Yes, blame should be placed on Mason’s shoulders, but he wasn’t alone in how it went down. Was it Madison’s influence that doomed his happiness? Did she not want anyone to have Mason, so she ensured Meg didn’t? Was Meg really that betrayed by not being picked first and becoming the default?

Mason was easily one of the sweetest people this season. You wanted to see him walk out happy. Instead, he looked like a poor puppy left out in the rain. His failure in this experiment is a reminder that being open in the pods is crucial, but there has to be a bit of protection for oneself. It was okay to have close connections with two women. As he learned the hard way, he just needed to be honest with himself faster. If Meg really was his person, Madison had to go sooner. In turn, Madison should have let Mason off the hook when she knew Alex was the one. But there is a silver lining to the situation. The teaser for the season sees a pod squad reunion of some sort featuring Mason and Meg. Is there hope outside the pods? The positive now is Mason is available, ladies!
