Love Is Blind 8: Monica and Joey Didn’t Get Married And I’m Shocked (I Thought They Were An Ideal Match)

Monica Danús and Joey Leveille mutually decided not to get married on Love Is Blind season 8, and I’m shocked, as they seemed like the perfect match. They were the first proposal and reveal shown to the audience this season (although, in reality, all the couples reveal themselves on the same day), which often indicates the strongest couple. Lauren and Cameron were the first proposal shown on season 1, and the couple recently celebrated their sixth anniversary. Brent and Tiffany were the first proposals shown in season 4, and they are still going strong.

Monica and Joey had the least drama of the couples on Love Is Blind season 8. While Taylor Haag was determining if Daniel Hastings knew what she looked like in advance and Sara Carton and Ben Mezzenga were navigating different faiths, Monica and Joey didn’t seem to have any big relationship issues. Their banter seemed fun and genuine, so I’m surprised they both said no at the altar.

Monica And Joey Didn’t Have Their Families’ Support

Monica’s Sister Didn’t Approve Of The Marriage

Monica and Joey fold laundry on Love Is Blind

While Monica and Joey didn’t have any internal relationship issues, external factors prevented their union. Notably, Monica’s sister Nicolle did not approve of Monica’s quick engagement to Joey. When Joey first met the Danús family, Nicolle pulled Monica aside to express the various reasons she was concerned about the relationship, most of which made her seem jealous rather than like someone with her sister’s best interest in mind.

Although Nicolle eventually supported Monica’s relationship, the damage was already done. In an interview with The Drive-in Podcast Network, Joey admitted that Monica and Nicolle’s dynamic threw him off. The couple had bonded over their close relationships with their sisters in the pods.

“When I saw their relationship, it was so much different in comparison to what I had thought it would be in the pods … hearing that and kind of seeing that there was a lack of approval there was tough because for me, family if my number one value. So being accepted in by the family is extremely important to me.”

Given the short amount of time the couples have to decide if they will wed or part ways, it’s understandable Joey wasn’t ready to commit fully to someone whose sister wasn’t as welcoming as he expected. However, it’s unfortunate that external factors played a role in Monica and Joey’s decision at the altar. Hopefully, they can work through this without the cameras around.

The Love Is Blind Process Moved Too Fast For Monica And Joey

They Didn’t Have Enough Time To Build Their Relationship

Every season, Love Is Blind asks if people can fall in love sight unseen. The show also asks if the cast can marry someone they’ve only known for about five weeks. For some couples, this process works out splendidly, giving the show a higher success rate than The Bachelor. However, some people aren’t ready to make that commitment so quickly. Love Is Blind emphasizes marriage as the metric of success, but couples can be happy delaying or even forgoing marriage.

Monica and Joey’s chemistry was undeniable.

While they decided not to get married on the Netflix dating show, they may decide to continue dating on a timeline that works for them. They wouldn’t be the first Love Is Blind couple to date after saying no on their wedding day. Whether they find love together or with other people, I’m rooting for both of them.
