Jocelyn Hudon Reveals Shocking ‘9-1-1’ Arrest Scene with Angela Bassett — What Really Happened!
Jocelyn Hudon is currently making waves as paramedic Lizzy Novak on NBC’s hit drama Chicago Fire, now heading into its third season this fall. But fans who only know her from that role might be surprised to learn that back in 2020, Hudon took on a very different part—one where she played a dangerous antagonist on 9-1-1. In that memorable guest appearance, she was part of a group threatening the lives of dispatchers at the emergency call center, including the character Maddie, played by Jennifer Love Hewitt.
When TV Insider caught up with Jocelyn Hudon recently to talk about the season finale of Chicago Fire Season 13, they couldn’t resist asking her about that unforgettable 9-1-1 episode.
“I remember everything from that episode!” Hudon said enthusiastically. “Angela Bassett arrested me at the train station. It was such an incredible experience.” She recounted how she was actually on vacation in Bora Bora when she got the audition notice. “I was thinking, ‘Ugh, the last thing I want to do on vacation is to fuss over my hair,’ but I said, ‘Screw it!’ I blow-dried my hair, put on some makeup, taped the audition for 9-1-1, and to my surprise, I got the role. It was amazing. Filming in downtown L.A. at really cool locations was such a thrill. And having Angela Bassett put me in handcuffs right off the bat? That was definitely a great way to kick off the year.”
The episode in question was Season 3, Episode 14, titled “The Taking of Dispatch 9-1-1.” The plot saw the emergency call center taken hostage during a high-stakes heist happening at a museum downtown. Hudon’s character, Tiffany, played a dark role—she was part of the criminal team but also had a personal vendetta, having previously abandoned her father to die on a job. The tension rose as Tiffany and her partner made off with priceless paintings, only to be tracked down by Athena, played by Angela Bassett.
Hudon loved the complexity of the role, especially the surprise twist that revealed Tiffany as the real villain. “It was so cool because the audience didn’t see it coming. I love a good twist in a storyline,” she said. “Playing a darker, more complex character like Tiffany was such a refreshing challenge for me. It’s really fun to explore the darker side of people and bring that to life on screen.”
Reflecting on the experience, Hudon added that working alongside powerhouse actress Angela Bassett was inspiring. “Angela is incredible—her presence on set is magnetic. To share scenes with her, especially one where she’s arresting me, was something I’ll never forget.”
Now, as she continues to portray the heroic Lizzy Novak on Chicago Fire, Jocelyn Hudon appreciates the chance to explore diverse roles and genres. But that guest spot on 9-1-1 remains a standout memory—one that tested her range as an actress and introduced her to new fans who enjoyed seeing her play against type.
