“It’s Not Impossible”: ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Showrunner On if Our Favorite Characters Will Return in a Spin-Off

The end for 9-1-1: Lone Star was swift and surprising as Fox announced the show would end with its fifth season mere weeks before the season was set to premiere. The premature ending came from various factors, but if one thing is clear at this point in the story, there is still more to be told about the show’s characters. The 9-1-1 universe moved away from Fox and now resides on ABC, with the flagship series airing on Thursdays and another spin-off currently in development. With how abrupt the ending was for 9-1-1: Lone Star and the fact that it can’t be moved to another network, there have been suggestions to relocate characters from the show to the new city where the new series will be set.

“[There are] no current plans” to bring characters from 9-1-1: Lone Star to the new series”, 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear previously said when asked if this was possible. However, “it’s not impossible,” he added. Rashad Raisani is the co-showrunner of 9-1-1: Lone Star, and, according to him, “never say never” to the prospect of seeing these characters in a new city. “I love all of these actors and characters,” he told TV Line. Raisani previewed the biggest issue with moving the characters to another show: lack of control. However, he spoke for himself and what he would do if he had the power to do so, saying,

“To be honest, I do feel like we ended too soon. Realistically and logistically, I know that this is it for the show in its current iteration, but I just keep hoping against hope that it finds a way. I don’t have full control over [bringing characters to the spinoff], but if I’m able to make it happen, I would.”

‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Ends as the Spinoff Struggles to Find a Home City.

Come February 3, 2025, 9-1-1: Lone Star will go off the air for good with the series finale. The show returns from a hiatus on Monday, January 20, 2025, and finds the 126 dealing with an apocalyptic event when they learn that an asteroid is headed for Austin and will make contact in a short time. As for the untitled 9-1-1 spinoff, plans to have the show set in Hawai’i seem to have changed as the creative team tries to find another city that other procedurals have not used. The spin-off has not been canceled but hasn’t made much progress since it was announced.
