Here’s a closer look at Gabby Petito’s family’s matching tattoos and the touching meaning
While watching Netflix’s new American Murder: Gabby Petito documentary, people have spotted a heartwarming detail about her family – they all have matching tattoos.
However, they’re not just matching with each other, they’re actually the exact ones that Gabby had on her arms.
After the 22-year-old was tragically murdered by her boyfriend Brian Laundrie, her mum, dad, step-mum and step-dad all went and got exactly the same tattoos their daughter had.
They visited the tattoo artist together and got four of her inks, a flower inside a triangle, a wave, the word “Believe” and the phrase “Let it be” to feel closer to her.
All of them showed off the tattoos together at a press conference in September 2021 and her dad Jim explained: “These were tattoos that Gabby designed herself, she was an artist.”

“I wanted to have her with me all the time. We need positive stuff to come from the tragedy that happened.”
“We all had them done last night, we all did it together. We always co-parented Gabby together and that’s not going to stop now, we’re in this together.”
The “Let it be” tattoo is a reference to the Beatles song which Gabby loved, and Jim used these meaningful lyrics in his eulogy at her funeral.
“And when the broken-hearted people living in the world agree; there will be an answer, let it be. It’s OK to mourn for Gabby. It’s OK to feel sorrow and pain, but we want to celebrate her and how she lived her life,” he said.
“We want you to hold onto all those wonderful memories we shared with her because that would be the answer; let it be.”
Gabby’s dad also has a vine wrapped around his finger, another of the 22-year-old’s inks, which Gabby and Brian actually got together as a symbol of their love.
“They knew exactly what they wanted. They said they wanted a couple of vines around each one of their fingers to represent them and their love and the fact they were planning this big trip together. They said they had been together two years,” the tattoo artist told the MailOnline.
“I said, okay easy enough. And then she added a couple of other things she wanted – a ghost riding a skateboard, a little Pisces zodiac sign and a little scorpion on her other fingers. So we just whipped them together and got it taken care of.”
“She actually drew the skateboard and the ghost and then she drew the scorpion as well, to show me what she wanted them to look like. She sketched them on his paperwork, a consent form, so I could get a visual. The vine was something they had seen on Pinterest or something.”
