Gemma Owen furiously shuts down Love Island: All Stars stint after speculation

Gemma Owen has slammed reports she is heading back to the villa as a contestant for Love Island: All Stars’s second season.

The 21-year-old reality star – who is the daughter of iconic football star Michael Owen, 44 – was a contestant on ITV2’s smash hit dating show Love Island in 2022. During her time on the series, she fell for hunky fishmonger Luca Bish, 25, and the couple ultimately ended up being runners up behind winners Davide Sanclimenti, 29, and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, 30.

While Gemma and Luca charmed viewers with their on-screen romance, relations swiftly cooled once they returned to the UK and they broke up. While fans might be interested to hear reports that Gemma is going to have another roll of the romance dice, the star herself has slammed the suggestion.

A report had suggested she would be going back to the villa to try to find love again, but a spokesperson dismissed the report. They told The Mirror: “There is no truth to this report – Gemma Owen is categorically not heading onto the show!”

The denial comes after The Sun suggested Gemma would return to the series. A source told the publication: “Gemma had a great time on Love Island in 2022… It wasn’t something she ever imagined signing up to but the entire experience caught her by surprise. She was incredibly young when she first starred on the show at 19 but now she hopes as a 21-year-old her first experience will help her at a second chance of love.

“Michael is bracing himself for another series supporting his daughter date in front of the nation – but he was so proud of Gemma during her first villa stint, he knows she’s sensible and can be trusted. As well as finding a long term partner, Gemma has seen how lucrative All Stars can be for the Islanders taking part and as a savvy businesswoman, she definitely sees it as a money making opportunity.” When asked for comment on the news that Gemma will be joining the cast, an ITV spokesperson didn’t confirm or deny the news, instead saying: “Nothing to add here.”

Love Island: All Stars is the first spin-off series of Love Island that brings past contestants back to the villa to try to find love again. The first season of the show aired earlier this year – with contestants flying to South Africa to film the series. There was controversy as season seven contestants Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish were reunited on the show – having previously fallen for and then fallen out with each other on the original show.

Jake dropped out of the All Stars series after being left too awkward to be around Liberty – and wishing her well before he left. The first season was won by season six star Molly Smith and season nine star Tom Clare – with the pair still together nine months later.
