Emily Prentiss Notices a Shocking Pattern in ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’ Sneak Peek

Criminal Minds: Evolution is finding its footing again after a huge shift in the show. Last week’s episode saw the funeral of William LaMontagne Jr. (Josh Stewart). Now, Collider is unveiling an exclusive clip for tonight’s episode of “I’m Fine, It’s Fine. Everything Is Fine” where the team has to resume their everyday. In the clip, FBI Section Chief Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster) is examining a body at a crime scene. She observes that this is now the third body, killed in the same way, organs harvested. The M.O. raises alarm bells, and she appears to be the first one to put the pattern together. Eventually, the team notices some differences as well, and those differences may lead them to their next break in the case.

Will’s Death Will Have Lasting Ramifications for the BAU in ‘Criminal Minds: Evolution’

The death of Will, will, of course, have the biggest impact on his wife Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook). The episode “Time To Say Goodbye” brought everyone together, some returning through mention (Hotchner and Morgan) and also with the highly anticipated return appearance of Matthew Grey Gubler‘s Spencer Reid. Speaking with ScreenRant, Cook broke down just how lasting of an impact Will’s death will have on everyone. “We’re going to touch on all the levels of grief because there are a lot of them, and you’ve gotta go through them, no matter how white-knuckling you are with it. You can’t do that forever,” Cook explains. Tonight’s episode “I’m Fine, It’s Fine. Everything Is Fine” sounds an awful lot like a line of dialogue likely spoken by JJ as she tries to adjust back to work after Will’s death. Cook explains:

“So we definitely touch on – we’re gonna see her maybe be unhinged a few times, which, rightfully so. But yeah, she’s really going to struggle with that work/home balance, because her job is a huge part of her identity. It’s almost her happy place in a creepy, strange way. It’s like okay, I can help other people, so I don’t have to focus on myself.”

With the collection of characters that make up Criminal Minds, a lot of them are profiliers, and that means they’d also notice a change in behavior before most. Cook says because of that, the navigating through the grief will be unique.

“They know where you are five steps before you’re even there. You know that. So this whole game of chicken, it doesn’t really exist. I think there’s almost a relief in not having to try to cover it up, because I know that they’re five steps ahead of me in any way. Everyone’s on high alert when they’re around JJ, making sure she’s okay, but at the same time, giving space for her to grieve, because that’s what they want more than anything. They just want her to let it out.”
