A major breakthrough came in 1970 with Venera 7—the first spacecraft to transmit data from the surface of Venus, confirming temperatures close to 900°F (~475°C). Venera 8 survived on the planet’s surface for more than two hours, sending back detailed data on its geology and atmospheric composition.
In 1975, Venera 9 and 10 captured the first-ever images of Venus’ surface—a rocky landscape beneath a thick, yellowish sky. Continuing the success, Venera 13 and 14 in 1982 transmitted high-resolution images, providing unprecedented insights into the planet’s terrain and climate.
