Criminal Minds Star Matthew Gray Gubler’s New Series Unveils First Look (After Getting Major Delay)
Fans get an early look at Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler’s next TV series.
Per TV Insider, the latest image of Gubler in CBS’ upcoming Einstein was released when the network unveiled its schedule for the Fall 2025 television season. While the image itself doesn’t show much from the series, simply featuring Gubler laid back on a couch in a moderately cluttered apartment, the sneak peek comes as a surprise considering the fact that the network only recently delayed the series until the 2026-2027 TV season rolls around.

News broke that Gubler had been cast in Einstein back in October. The series is set to be an American remake of the hit German police procedural of the same name, which ran for 3 seasons from 2017-2019 and starred Tom Bex as the largely unknown great-great-grandson of the legendary Albert Einstein. As his life expectancy dwindles due to a rare neurodegenerative disease and his genius flails in his position as a university professor, Prof. Dr. Felix “Einstein” Einterberg finds a second chance by teaming up with an independent consultant detective Elena Lange, portrayed by Annika Ernst. The pair investigate a variety of murders, with Felix avoiding prison time for narcotics violations as part of his deal with the police.
Matthew Gray Gubler Takes On Another Genius Role
Per the official synopsis for CBS’ Einstein, the series revolves around the “brilliant but directionless Lew, the great-grandson of Albert Einstein spends his days as a comfortably tenured professor, until his bad-boy antics land him in trouble with the law, and he is pressed into service helping a local police detective solve her most puzzling cases. Lew Einstein is a popular professor at Princeton … When he actually shows up for class. Irreverent and misguided, Lew’s genius and famous name weighs heavily on him, but using his gift to help solve homicides may — finally — offer his life some direction and purpose.”
In late April, it was reported that Einstein was being pushed back by a full year in order to accommodate CBS’ already filled schedule for the 2025-2026 TV season. The series is just one of several new shows that have bene ordered by the network, including DMV, a comedy set within the confines of a Department of Motor Vehicles office. CBS also has three spinoffs in the works, including CIA, which is spun out of FBI, Sheriff Country, which is spun out of Fire Country, and Boston Blue, which was originally intended to be a completely original series before being folded into the world of the hit police drama Blue Bloods.
