“A Really Beautifully Built Puzzle Box”: ‘Criminal Minds’ Star, 54, Teases What’s to Come in Season 18’s Finale Episodes
Following the events of the latest episode of Criminal Minds Season 18, fans are super eager to see how the crime drama wraps things up in the finale. This season is set to have ten episodes, with the finale scheduled to air next month, meaning only two episodes remain before we (maybe) find out if Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) is truly out of play and who exactly is The Disciple. Episode 8, titled “Tara,” already showed the serial killer try to have the BAU chase their own tails, and while that didn’t work, the profilers were still unable to work out the identity.
“[The remaining episodes] are a really beautifully built puzzle box. You really want to just sit, standby, because there’s a lot of complexity to those episodes. What’s been really great about being in streaming is how we’re able to build this more elegant and complex puzzle for people. It used to be just, ‘Solve the crime every week.’ Now we are also building this larger mystery.”
Is Elias Voit Truly Out of Play in ‘Criminal Minds’ Season 18?
Since Criminal Minds Season 18 began, Voit has stopped being the bad guy as he deals with severe amnesia after being attacked in prison last season. The villain-turned-goodie was introduced as the main antagonist in the “Just Getting Started” episode of Season 16, in a flashback to 2005, where he butchered a man named John Harris alive. Recently, he has been helping the BAU find more bad guys, particularly members of his infamous Sicarius network.
Still, many are not convinced that Voit has turned a good leaf, and even Tyler has suggested he may not be completely out of play. Elsewhere in the interview, the actress said:
“These characters, because they all have dipped in some way into the network, are a part of this larger mystery that we’re building around and beyond Voit. Because Voit’s out of play. But is he out of play?”
