Is ‘9-1-1’ On Tonight? Here’s When ‘9-1-1’ Returns With New Episodes On ABC

It’s been 20 days since 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 8, “Wannabes,” premiered on ABC. But who’s counting? (We are. We’re definitely counting.)

The midseason finale of Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Brad Falchuk’s hit first responder drama kicked off 9-1-1‘s winter hiatus, so if you or someone you know is looking for the perfect time to catch up on the series, all eight seasons are currently streaming on Hulu.

Unfortunately, we won’t see Bobby (Peter Krause), Athena (Angela Bassett), Hen (Aisha Hinds), Karen (Tracie Thoms), Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Buck (Oliver Stark), and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) until new episodes premiere in 2025. But in addition to return date info, we’ve got some exciting teases from showrunner Tim Minear to help hold fans over.

Wondering when 9-1-1 returns with new Season 8 episodes? Curious how to watch 9-1-1 episodes live or online? Or want to know what Minear has in store for fans after the midseason finale? We’ve got you covered.

Here’s everything to know about 9-1-1‘s return date, time, streaming info, and what the second half of Season 8 has planned for our favorite fictional first responders.

ABC Schedule For December 12:

If you’re wondering what’s on in 9-1-1‘s place this Thursday, December 12, ABC’s schedule shows another new episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight premiering at 8:00 p.m. ET. ‘Tis the season!

What Will 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 9 (And Beyond) Be About? Showrunner Tim Minear Weighs In:

As the preview at the end of 9-1-1‘s midseason finale teased, when the series returns in March, Athena (Angela Bassett) and the 118 will be dealing with a hostage situation, a serial killer, and what appears to be a Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) kidnapping?! (As a reminder, Maddie is pregnant!)

Teased as “one of its most intense episodes yet,” Season 8’s two-part 2025 return will undoubtedly pack a punch, so to help hold you over, we chatted with showrunner Tim Minear about what lies ahead in 9-1-1 Season 8. When we last left Eddie (Ryan Guzman), he was considering a move to Texas to be closer to his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh). Minear confirmed that Eddie’s life will be “in flux” when the show returns, and while it’s hard to imagine one of 9-1-1‘s core characters relocating long-term, Minear also assured Decider that “Eddie is dead serious about doing whatever he has to do to repair that relationship, so if that means moving to Texas, maybe that’s what he has to do.”

As you may have guessed, Eddie’s best friend Buck (Oliver Stark) — fresh off a break-up and dealing with abandonment issues — doesn’t want him to leave. Minear teased a major spiral ahead for Buck, saying, “Buck is going to be spinning like a top by the time we come back. [He’s] not wanting to be a bad friend, and not wanting to be selfish. There’s just no way he’s not going to spiral about this.”

Though Minear noted that Buck will eventually find a new distraction, he teased that distraction will be short-lived. “He’s going to have to find something to latch onto to keep from completely spinning out of control. And he will find that. He will find that when we come back. And we’ll see about that and how long that lasts — these relationships don’t tend to last all that long,” the showrunner said.

Minear also explained, “[Maddie’s] pregnancy story will factor in not insignificantly in the first two episodes when we come back. And the Bobby and Athena building a new house story, we’ll hit that pretty hard in Episode 11. We’re going to get to everything.”

As for which episode the showrunner is most excited for fans to see, he confidently replied, “All of them, actually. As far as the ones that I have worked out and the ones that we’ve shot, I’m really excited for Episode 9. There’s a great story that starts in there. We’ll also get to see Buck dealing with his abandonment issues. And then Episode 10 is just going to be thrilling. It’s going to be a thriller. And by the end of Episode 10, everybody’s life is changed.” HMMMM…

When asked about his goal for the second half of Season 8, Minear revealed he aims “to blow it all the hell apart,” so if you need us, we’ll be sweating until March. (Read our full chat with the 9-1-1 showrunner here.)
