Angel Reese picks her NBA GOAT, and it’s not Michael Jordan or LeBron James

The discussion of who the greatest player of all time is has always been subjective, but it always revolves around two prominent figures.

As it is, Michael Jordan usually stands as the most frequent answer if you ask someone who is their choice for the basketball GOAT. Jordan set the standard and defined greatness, dominance, and perfection during his glorious playing days by winning five MVP awards and spearheading the Chicago Bulls dynasty for six championships in the 1990s.

As such, some view LeBron James as the best ever. Boosted by his longevity and all-around wonders, the four-time league MVP has been the best player in the world for a significant stretch as he continues to savor a phenomenal career — highlighted by four NBA titles and other multiple accolades.

Angel Reese identifies Shaq as his NBA GOAT

As much as these two sports legends are always on the table about who stands the best, Angel Reese meanwhile has an intriguing pick for her GOAT choice.

As the cover of Sports Illustrated’s newest Power List issue, Reese recently sat down and answered 10 Burning Questions about basketball and related topics. From the idea of playing to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and her considered role models, Reese was eventually asked who the best player in the NBA is.

Reese stopped for a while to process her thoughts but ultimately came up with an interesting answer: Shaquille O’Neal.

“[Greatest NBA player] of all time? Oh my God. Imma say Shaq.”

Not a bad choice

Reese’s preference is quite intriguing. And given the fact that she currently plays for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, we might have at least expected that she’ll lean towards identifying Jordan.

But in the end, Reese didn’t make a mistake as O’Neal is still a logical and solid choice for the GOAT debate. Although he doesn’t generate that much of a favor compared to Jordan and James, O’Neal is still a legendary one of his own. Arguably the game’s most dominant player, the Los Angeles Lakers great used his sheer power and strength to conquer the league and four world championships.

In addition, Reese’s selection of O’Neal can also be traced from a personal and business standpoint. The 22-year-old considers the former superstar big man a friend and mentor, sharing significant ties as two of Louisiana State University’s hoops finest.
