Lonzo Ball’s gift to Angel Reese causes a stir on the interwebs: ‘$2,000 is lunch money!’
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese had quite the rookie campaign breaking the league’s record for rookie double-doubles.
Reese finished the year with averages of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game, helping her finish second behind Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark in the Rookie of the Year voting.
Her performances not only broke records on the court, but they also helped bring new fans to the WNBA in 2024. Her popularity was no doubt helped by her college battle with Clark, with fans of the two carrying their fandom over to the official ranks.
Along with casual fans, celebrities and NBA stars were regularly seen at Sky games this season. One of these NBA stars was Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball, who was in attendance for the Sky vs New York Liberty game back in June.
Things didn’t go to plan for Reese that day as she was thrown out, though Ball personally offered to pay whatever fine was set to come her way
Ball actually sent money to Reese
Ball recently appeared on Reese’s ‘Unapologetically Angel’ podcast, with the Sky star revealing he sent her $2,000 for what ended up being a $200 fine.
“You gave me $2,000,” Reese said. “Do you know how much my fine actually was? It was only $200.”
The fact Ball sent more money than the actual fine has caused a stir amongst fans online, with plenty of them backing Ball’s generosity.
“Good guy Zo,” wrote one fan, while another stated: “$2,000 is crazy.”
Another added: “Lonzo got that bag lmaooo.”
However there was one fan who wasn’t as impressed given Ball’s huge salary with the Bulls.
“I mean he making 20 million that’s lunch money lol,” a fan stated.
