9-1-1: Lone Star’s Future Revealed After Season 5: The Definitive Update Fans Have Been Waiting For
9-1-1: Lone Star‘s post-season 5 future has been officially confirmed. Lone Star is a spinoff of the popular series 9-1-1, which originally began airing on Fox in 2018. Lone Star saw Rob Lowe play a New York firefighter who has to relocate to Austin, Texas, working to save lives while also grappling with personal issues. The series features a leading cast including Lowe, Gina Torres, Ronen Rubinstein, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, and Rafael L. Silva. The show has had four completed seasons and will premiere 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 on Monday, September 23.
Per TV Insider, it has been announced that 9-1-1 : Lone Star will be ending after season 5. According to the report, season 5 has been rumored to be the show’s last since June of this year. A specific reason for the cancelation of 9-1-1: Lone Star was not stated. Fox TV Network President Michael Thorn spoke highly of the series, noting its “heroic and deeply moving stories,” and praising the strong creative team behind the series. Thorn expressed the desire to provide the series with “the high-stakes send-off it deserves” in the final season. Check out the full quote from Thorn below:
From the start, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin’s 126, so a huge thanks to one of the greatest creative teams in all television — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear — for creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere. Now in our final season of the show, we’re set to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathless rescues, insurmountable odds, and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our incomparable, stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.
9-1-1: Lone Star’s Cancellation Does Not Come As A Surprise
9-1-1: Lone Star Ending After Season 5 Has Been Foreshadowed For Months
As TV Inside alludes to, 9-1-1: Lone Star‘s ending has been rumored for quite some time. In June, it was announced that actor Sierra McClain was leaving the show, and many saw this as a sign that Lone Star would be ending. It was also reported around that time that several key cast members were under the impression the show was ending. Early last month, Lowe addressed these rumors by noting that it was “probably the end of an era” for 9-1-1: Lone Star.
Another point in the wrong direction for 9-1-1: Lone Star was the fact that the flagship series had moved off of Fox for 9-1-1 season 7. While 9-1-1 was picked up by ABC, 9-1-1: Lone Star was set to stay on Fox amid budget cuts and other cancellations. This put 9-1-1: Lone Star in a risky position, as it made it such that the series would have to stay on a network that suffered from budget issues.
It seems the cast members’ predictions were right after all, as the ending of 9-1-1: Lone Star after season 5 is announced. The final series will air 12 episodes, weekly on Mondays starting on September 23. It will begin with a multi-episode storyline that shows the 126 racing to save people from a train derailment. Even though 9-1-1: Lone Star season 6 will not happen, what’s in store for season 5 at least promises an exciting conclusion.
