Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Why Are The Ladies (Minus Danni) Feeling Remorseful Over Gary Almost Dying?

In Season 8, Episode 3 of Sistas, Andy and her friends have a moment that brings back the sister circle dynamic from early seasons. The episode almost nails that vibe but falls short due to an all-too-familiar, frustrating storyline: Andy’s conflicted feelings about Gary.

It starts with Andy sharing how she felt relief when she thought Gary might not survive an earlier incident. But soon, she backtracks, questioning how she could live without him. Danny voices the audience’s thoughts, saying, “What is wrong with you, Andy?” She’s skeptical, but Karen and Sabrina brush Danny off, telling Andy she’s not a “monster” for feeling this way. Andy then goes down a list of all the hurtful, toxic things Gary has done, yet still ends up torn. Despite blackmail, stalking, and multiple betrayals, she’s still drawn to him.

Danny, being the voice of reason, points out how the same cycle has been playing out since the earlier seasons. Every time Andy seems ready to let go, she talks to her friends, and they validate her doubts, leaving Danny as the only dissenting voice. It feels like a rehash of old tropes where Andy’s drawn back to Gary despite all the red flags.

It’s not just frustrating; it detracts from what could have been a solid episode focused on sisterhood. They even throw in Sabrina’s sentiment that she feels impacted too, even though she doesn’t really know Gary. For viewers, it’s hard to empathize when the character’s actions repeat the same pattern.

Though the episode had nostalgic moments, this scene bumped the rating down for me. The sister circle felt overshadowed by a storyline that hasn’t grown. Andy’s attachment to Gary after everything feels contrived, dragging down an otherwise enjoyable episode.
