Zach Loses Michael in Shocking Twist While Fatima Lands a Career-Changing Case!

First things first, the episode itself… was it good? Honestly, not really. And the writing this season has been frustrating. Knowing that the director also wrote this season, it’s clear intentional choices are being made—but often, it feels like past storylines are being ignored or rewritten just to fit the current plot. For example, Heather’s aunt supposedly had custody of Michael since birth, but we never even saw her until now. Meanwhile, Zach’s prior custody journey was glossed over to rush him into being the full-time parent. This backspace-delete approach to storytelling is jarring and disrespects longtime viewers.

In this episode, we finally see the great aunt appear in family court. Creatively, she could have been integrated better—her initial focus is on Michael’s welfare, but later she shifts to discussing money and child support, which undermines the emotional weight of her earlier statements. Zach’s approach to custody also highlights his ego: he assumes that being the biological father automatically makes him the best parent, yet he never takes the time to build a meaningful relationship with Michael. He often prioritizes his own pride and conflicts over genuine parenting.

Meanwhile, Fatima steps up in ways Zach never does. Despite not being a licensed attorney, she goes above and beyond to help Zach in court, rearranging her schedule and lending her expertise. Yet, when she gets an incredible new opportunity to serve as a law clerk for a high-profile case, Zach can’t seem to respect her ambition. This imbalance—where Fatima continuously supports Zach, but he rarely reciprocates—remains a central tension in the series.

The episode also shows Zach’s ongoing issues with anger and accountability. During court, his past violent behavior and incarceration are brought up, and he immediately deflects blame. This mindset is likely the biggest barrier to his growth: as long as Zach sees himself as a victim and refuses to take responsibility for his actions, Fatima will continue to carry the weight of their family and relationship.

Overall, the episode is a mix of courtroom drama, relationship tension, and character growth—or lack thereof. Zach’s ego and unresolved issues clash with Fatima’s competence and dedication, making for a compelling yet frustrating watch. This episode reminds us why Fatima often emerges as the true hero in the Zatima narrative, managing crises and holding things together while Zach struggles to grow.
