What Connecticut Sun’s DiJonai Carrington correctly predicted about WNBA rookie star Caitlin Clark
Can Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington forecast the future?
It seems that way, at least as far as the WNBA is concerned.
In April ahead of the season, Carrington sent out a social media post predicting that rookie phenom Caitlin Clark would lead the WNBA in assists. Well, it seems that Carrington was correct.
Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, not only leads the league in assists per game (8.5) but also in total assists (306). Naturally, Clark also logged the most assists in a single game (19), breaking the WNBA record.
Clark is well on her way to break the single-season assists record which, coincidentally, is held by Carrington’s teammate and Olympic gold medalist Alyssa Thomas. The WNBA career leader in triple-doubles (12) recorded 316 assists last season, so Clark needs 10 more assists to tie the record and 11 more to break it.
The playoffs are inching closer as the regular season comes to a close. The Sun are fighting with the Minnesota Lynx, led by former UConn women’s basketball player Napheesa Collier, for the No. 2 seed in the East. Connecticut released the probability of which team the franchise will face in the first round as playoff tickets went on sale and it looks like the Sun are primed to see Clark and the Fever.
How poetic would it be for Clark’s first playoffs appearance to be against the same team she faced in her WNBA regular season debut?
