Love Island’s Sammy Root breaks down in tears as he confronts Elma about split on TOWIE
Sobbing Sammy Root came face-to-face with Elma Pazar for the first time since their shock break-up.
It’s been five months since Sammy, 24, and Elma, 32, left the Love Island: All Stars villa together. After heading home, the pair were welcomed back by their TOWIE castmates as fans watched their new relationship unfold on camera.
But things didn’t last and the “raw and emotional” scenes for the latest series of The Only Way Is Essex, which were filmed in Portugal. Sammy confessed to Ella: “I don’t think you realised how much I did, and still do, like you.” It comes after ITV makes major decision on I’m A Celebrity’s future after talks with officials.
“I would have done anything. One of my favourite things to do is take the person you love out and have a fun date night, that’s what I love to do.” His former girlfriend is then seen overcome with emotion as she wipes a tear away.
He went on: “You didn’t ever say it was done in the text so I didn’t know what was going on.” Elma replied: “I said, ‘it was a shame…’.” Sammy cut her off and said: “Yeah, you said ‘it was a shame’ so in my head, I’m like, does that mean it’s done?
“They were coming from you and you know what you felt like but I’m reading those messages and I’m thinking, ‘right?’. I didn’t know it was done and I never saw you again until we saw each other at the airport and you were like, ‘why are you being awkward’, and that’s why.”
Asking for ” a minute” before he broke down into floods of tears, he carried on and said: “Anyone that knows me knows that I am not an emotional person and so it’s like when I do get like this… I don’t know what to f***ing do.”
Elma told him that she didn’t want him to disappear from her life but it was clear that he needed some time away to process his feelings. Viewers were left gripped by the scenes following their break up.
After the split, he said: “I will always enter every situation with the same mindset. I was brought up very old-fashioned by my parents. Like, you treat a woman like a princess, and I’ll always do that. I’ll always be the same me. And listen, sometimes it’s gonna work out, sometimes it’s not.”
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror earlier this summer, Sammy, who won the show in 2023 with ex Jess Harding, said: “It’s going well. We’re just doing our own thing, staying as private as we can. Once you’ve been in the public eye, you’ll always get people’s opinions so we keep ourselves to ourselves really.”
“I’m very good at blocking outside noise, I don’t let it get to me,” he said. “I think Elma probably lets it get to her a little bit more, which is why I’m here to bring her back down to Earth.”
Sammy continued: “You’re always going to have people saying stuff whatever you’re doing, that’s just part of life. You’ve got to get used to outside noise and block it out really.”
Elma had a rocky start to her Love Island: All Stars journey, after things didn’t work out with Ronnie Vint. However, as soon as her TOWIE co-star Sammy Root walked through the door, sparks through and the pair only had eyes for each other throughout.
It wasn’t the first time fans had seen chemistry between the two onscreen. The pair had previously been flirty on TOWIE – with many sceptics believing their “plan” was to go in Love Island together. However, Sammy has now revealed that there was nothing going on between the two away from the TOWIE cameras.
“Neither of us had a clue each other was going in,” he said. “I think everyone overestimated this connection we had. We’d filmed on TOWIE and maybe flirted a little bit, but what you guys saw was the full extent of it. There was nothing going on behind closed doors. We never really texted, we never kissed or anything.”
