“Do Not Settle”: Love Is Blind’s Taylor Haag Has Advice For Followers After Finding Love With Daniel Hastings In Pods (They’re Over The Instagram Drama)

Out of the couples featured on Love Is Blind season 8, only one couple—Daniel Hastings and Taylor Haag—went through with their nuptials and are happily together today. The show whittled down to five engaged couples, but Joey Leveille and Monica Danus, Devin Buckley and Virginia Miller, Ben Mazzenga and Sara Carton, and David Bettenburg and Lauren O’Brien all broke up either before the weddings or at the altar. Since the show aired, the drama hasn’t stopped, with a rumored relationship between Sara and Joey raising eyebrows and the fallout from Ben and Sara’s relationship continuing to play out.

It’s nice that in the bleakness of all the break-ups, we can look to Daniel and Taylor as an example of the Love is Blind experiment working. Daniel and Taylor’s road to the altar wasn’t all “sunshine and Honduras,” but the two worked through their issues and are now happily married. They can showcase their love on social media now that the season has ended, and it looks like they’ve built a sweet life together, staged Christmas card photo shoots and all.

Taylor recently took to Instagram to advise her 396k followers, telling them, “The love that you’re wondering if it’s out there, it is. Gentle, peaceful, and kind love exists. Do not settle, do not give up. You will find it and everything will make sense.” Accompanying her words was a Reel that showed off some of their sweeter moments together, including kissing on a golf cart, loading a YouHaul, celebrating with their friends, eating Taco Bell (of course), enjoying Christmas movies (naturally), and walking down the street hand-in-hand.

The audio that Taylor chose to play over her Reel was a woman speaking about what real love is as soft music plays: “The one who loves you will not make you spend a day wondering whether they love you or not. You will just know the whole time.”

At first, I thought Daniel and Taylor would be the first couple to split before making it down the aisle. After meeting in real life, something told Taylor she’d met Daniel before. She began to spiral, thinking Daniel had followed her on Instagram before the show, which would undermine the entire Love Is Blind experiment. If Daniel knew what she looked like, he could pursue her in the pods without fear he wouldn’t be attracted to her, but it wouldn’t be fair for Taylor since she’s assuming he’s falling for her without seeing her physical appearance.

Daniel denied ever following (and then unfollowing) Taylor on Instagram, and she was able to prove it by using an app on her phone that tells her who follows and unfollows her. It’s kind of crazy that she happened to have it, but we’ll look past that. After confirming Daniel had not followed her before meeting, Taylor was able to continue her relationship with Daniel.

The entire premise of Love Is Blind is to prove that when it comes to love, looks don’t matter. You can fall for someone’s intellect or sense of humor, or you can connect with someone on an emotional level that overpowers anything physical. Now, the track record for Love is Blind isn’t great, but some couples lived happily ever after.

We’ll never know for sure whether Taylor and Daniel would have connected had they met more organically, through friends or on a dating app. At 5’8″, Daniel is a self-proclaimed “short king” who says his stature has stood in the way of relationships. However, that didn’t deter Taylor in the slightest, as she’d already fallen in love with who Daniel was.

It’s a lesson we can all take with us, whether we’re looking for love in pods or in real life. The physical side of attraction is important, but it’s not everything. Time passes, looks fade, and it’s who you are on the inside that matters most.
