Love Is Blind Season 8: I’m Convinced Dave & Lauren Were Right To Break Up (That Choice Was Best For Both Their Sakes)

David “Dave” Bettenburg and Lauren O’Brien were right to end their engagement before making it to the altar on Love Is Blind season 8. While Dave got a lot of flack for how he handled various aspects of the engagement, I think both Lauren and Dave will be better off now that they aren’t together. Neither of the Love Is Blind cast members were ready to marry each other.

Dave made a name for himself on the Netflix dating series when he asked some dubious questions in the pods to various women when first meeting them. Fans also felt suspicious when Lauren, a social studies curriculum salesperson, told Dave she was 30 years old, and Dave responded by jokingly saying she wasn’t attractive anymore. Although Dave maintains that he was joking and that he and Lauren later got engaged, his behavior in the pods was questionable. Lauren likely dodged a bullet, although the relationship did not suit Dave either.

Dave Wasn’t Honest With His Connections

He Led Molly Mullaney On

It’s common for contestants on Love Is Blind to develop multiple connections in the pods. In season 4, Zack Goytowski proposed to Irina Solomonova despite his connection with Bliss Poureetezadi, although he quickly proposed to Bliss when his engagement to Irina didn’t work out. Dave also had multiple connections in the pods, notably hitting it off with Lauren and Molly Mullaney.

However, Dave wasn’t honest in the pods regarding his multiple connections. Molly informed the rest of the pod squad Dave was ending things with Lauren, or so she had been told. Instead, Dave and Lauren stayed together, and Dave ended things with Molly. Honesty is the hallmark of a good relationship. Dave and Lauren’s relationship didn’t start with honesty because she was unaware of the important conversations he was having with other women.

Dave Wanted His Sister’s Approval

His Family Stood In The Way Of His Relationship

Many Love Is Blind cast members have discussed how important family is, especially regarding their relationships. Dave specifically craved the support of his sister, whom he often mentioned on the Netflix reality show. However, Dave’s sister wasn’t supportive of the controversial experiment.

He admitted that while his sister eventually agreed to let him go on the social experiment, she was adamant Dave shouldn’t get engaged. Dave followed his heart instead of listening to his sister, but neither he nor Lauren could get past his sister’s disapproval. Dave’s sister refused to meet Lauren, even over FaceTime or away from the Netflix cameras. Dave wasn’t wrong for wanting his sister’s support, as he was bringing a new person into their family. Lauren and Dave should be with people whose families support their relationship, which wasn’t true for their engagement.

Dave And Lauren Weren’t On The Same Page

They Had Trouble Understanding Each Other

The big drama between Lauren and Dave on Love Is Blind season 8 was about a previous relationship Lauren had engaged in. Lauren described the situation as “casual,” but Dave’s friends, who knew the man Lauren had hooked up with, claimed they were told it was a full-blown relationship. Dave told Vulture he had been told Lauren and Daniel Nides were seeing each other for three months, and she stayed with him before leaving to film Love Is Blind.

“In my head, that timeline does not add up. It sounded like it was a full-on relationship that had zero closure, that they never even said, ‘this is over,’ when she left. Almost like keeping the door open in case it didn’t work out.”

While Lauren wanted Dave to trust her version of the story, Dave felt Lauren wasn’t being honest with him, nor was she ready to get married. Dave also had a different idea of what it meant to be ready for marriage. To him, recently getting out of a relationship or situationship meant Lauren couldn’t possibly be ready to settle down with someone else, but Lauren didn’t see things the same way. Ultimately, I think the Love Is Blind duo will be happier dating someone who views the world more similarly.
