A “poison cloud of death” is threatening all of Austin, but that may not be the most daunting thing faced on Monday’s episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star.
The final hour of the 3-part season 5 opener will conclude with a giant cloud of chlorine gas billowing out of a derailed train. And while the 118 firefighters and EMTs work to save the city, Tommy (Gina Torres) needs someone to watch her twins, Isabella and Evie (Kelsey and Skyler Yates). Her go-to neighbors are not available, and she’s not really on speaking terms with her boyfriend/maybe fiancé, Pastor Trevor (D.B. Woodside), after he informed her that he could not accept her marriage proposal until she and her daughters were vetted by his ex-wife.
EW has an exclusive preview clip from season 5, episode 3, “Cl2,” that sees Carlos (Rafael Silva) showing up to babysit — and things go wrong from the jump. After mistaking one twin for the other, he realizes the girls are not alone. Trevor has shown up uninvited to watch the girls, and introduces Carlos to his daughter, Melody (Bella Blanding), who takes the opportunity to flirt with the Texas Ranger (“You’re fine!”).
That awkwardness aside, the two men then begin discussing the double booking. Trevor says his presence is “trespassing,” while Carlos points out “technically, it’s kidnapping.”

“I hope that everybody at the end of this can see both sides, because I certainly can,” Lone Star co-showrunner Rashad Raisani has told EW of the proposal drama between Tommy and Trevor. “I’ve got a kid, and if my wife were to go marry someone else, I would want to know, ‘What’s the environment you’re putting my child in?’ And at the same time, if I’m Tommy, I’m like, ‘What the f— are you talking about? Who is this person? I don’t want strings attached to me.’ It’s a very universal, human sort of situation that people find themselves in.”
9-1-1: Lone Star, season 5, episode 3, “Cl2,” airs Monday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Watch the exclusive preview clip above.
