Who is Scott Thomas? Love Island: All Stars hopeful with famous family
Love Island: All Stars is back for series two, reuniting us once again with some fan favourites from previous years of the ITV2 dating show.
Joining the cast this time is Scott Thomas, one of the early stars of Love Island who is still on the hunt for his perfect match.
Here’s all you need to know about his famous family, celebrity podcast, and why he was tempted back to the villa.
Who are Scott Thomas’ famous family?
Scott Thomas comes from an all-star family as the brother of soap actors Ryan and Adam Thomas. In fact, he is Adam’s twin.
Adam is best known for starring in Emmerdale and Waterloo Road, while their elder brother Ryan had a long-running role in Coronation Street as Jason Grimshaw and won last year’s Dancing On Ice.
Ryan is engaged to Towie’s Lucy Mecklenburgh, who he has two children with, and he also shares a daughter with previous partner and Corrie co-star Tina O’Brien.
The Thomas brothers are close friends, often posting photos and videos with each other on social media, and in 2020 they explored their Indian ancestry in documentary Absolutely India: Mancs in Mumbai.
Who did Scott Thomas date in Love Island?
After a few brief days with Zara Holland early in series two of Love Island, Scott spent the rest of the 2016 series coupled up with Kady McDermott.
They finished in third place behind winners Cara de la Hoyde and Nathan Massey, and runners-up Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland, both of whom are now married with children.
However, Scott’s love story with the make-up artist went in a different direction as they split after a year of dating and she re-entered Love Island as a bombshell in 2023.
Ahead of his All Stars return, Scott was asked about the possibility of being reunited with McDermott in the villa and admitted they had “not crossed paths in five years”.
He said: “It didn’t end in the best way possible. I don’t know how I would be if I saw her. I don’t know how she would be if she saw me. That’s the honest truth.
“I don’t have any bad energy towards her, but it didn’t end well. It’s like a weird part of your life that’s kind of been closed off and you haven’t ever revisited it, so it would be interesting and a special moment, I’m sure.”
What you need to know about Scott Thomas, from podcast to sobriety
Although he hasn’t found lasting love since his first stint in the villa, Scott has enjoyed plenty of other successes over the last eight years.
He launched his own PR agency, The Social PR, and hosts a successful celebrity podcast called Learning As I Go. His guests have included Coleen Nolan, Gemma Atkinson, Wes Nelson, Ferne McCann, Lucy Mecklenburgh, Russell Kane, Malin Andersson, Kelsey Parker and many others who have supported his own self-development or who he has found inspiring.
As for Scott’s self-development, it has included quitting alcohol and he has spoken often about his sobriety, celebrating two years of being tee-total in December.
Posting about just some of his reasons for going sober, he wrote: “On this exact date two years ago I stopped drinking after a Christmas night out where I upset someone I cared about by just saying some stupid sh#t that I didn’t even mean. It wasn’t even anything major looking back but I just remembered being sick and tired of that horrible anxiety feeling the next day…
He added: “I just couldn’t bare (sic) the lows anymore and I knew it was the one thing holding me back from my true potential. I just hadn’t done enough work on myself to be able to call it a night at the right time.
“So here I am two years later and it’s been by far the best decision for me personally. I’ve grown SO much as a person and I can finally look at the person infront of me and say I’m proud of who I am. I’m finally the person I always wanted to be.”
Why does Scott Thomas want to go back to Love Island?
He’s had the longest time away from the show of any of All Stars series two’s Islanders, but Scott explained why it was the perfect time for him to revisit the dating show.
Speaking ahead of entering the villa, he said: “I’ve been on a massive journey over the last five years; I’ve been working on sobriety, personal growth, self development, when I first went into the villa I was still a bit of a boy… I feel like I finally know who I am. It might sound cheesy, but I’m ready to settle down and I’ve never been open to saying those words. Where better than Love Island?”
Asked if there was a relationship that inspired him in his search for love, he admitted: “My brother, Adam and his wife Caroline. They have an amazing relationship. I always say I want to find ‘my Caroline’. They are still madly in love. Also watching Sophie (Piper) and Josh (Ritchie) from All Stars series one having belly laughs was great as well.”
