‘9-1-1’ Season 8 Episode 6 Exclusive Clip: Eddie Emotionally Confesses To ‘9-1-1’s Resident Hot Priest

The Hot Priest will see you now.

No, Fleabag hasn’t returned for a third season. But ABC’s hit first responder drama 9-1-1 is heading to church to reunite with a familiar face from its 2018 pilot: Bobby’s priest, played by Gavin Stenhouse.

Decider’s exclusive clip of 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 6, “Confessions” gives fans a sneak peek at Eddie (Ryan Guzman) opening up about his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) in a confessional.

“I’m not sure where to even start,” Eddie admits after noting it’s been more than two decades since his last confession. “I imagine that after 23 years something in particular must be bothering you enough to make you feel like you need to be here,” the priest replies. And boy is he right!

In the first-look clip located at the top of this article, Eddie goes on to share that he “lost” his son — a heartbreaking shift in his world that’s been weighing him down since 9-1-1‘s Season 7 finale, when Christopher decided to live with his grandparents in El Paso, Texas.

The priest offers his condolences and asks how old Christopher was, which prompts Eddie to clarify that his boy is still alive, the situation is just…complicated.

“He’s with his grandparents — my folks. He’s got special needs. Cerebral palsy. It doesn’t keep him down. He’s just this optimistic soul, you know?” Eddie says, tearing up over his love for Chris and the pain of their estrangement.

“All I wanted to do was protect him. Keep him safe. And I couldn’t protect him from me,” Guzman’s character continues. “I put my desires before his needs. I traumatized my son, Father.”

Following the moving moment of vulnerability, the soft-spoken priest asks Eddie to elaborate, so he revisits the Season 7 trauma that drove a wedge between him and Chris, prefacing the abbreviated recap by stressing just how hard it is to explain. After the priest assures him there’s nothing he hasn’t heard, Eddie proceeds to prove him wrong. Very wrong.

“He came home and found me with his dead mother,” Eddie says. “She wasn’t his actual mother, she just looked like her. I mean exactly like her, which is why I was seeing her. But I didn’t tell her that. Well, not at first. And I lied to everyone else — to my son, my best friend, my girlfriend.” (Let the record show that in order of storytelling importance, Buck did rank higher than Eddie’s girlfriend.)

While the sneak peak concludes before we hear the priest’s response, it’s clear that Eddie still has a lot more to unpack before he’s able to forgive himself and take necessary steps towards healing. Judging by Guzman’s touching performance in this clip, we’re in for quite the 9-1-1 return. And now that we have eyes on the Hot Priest, here’s hoping the Buck/Tommy/Abby theory becomes a reality, too.

Ahead of 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 6, Decider also has a few teases from Oliver Stark about what the future hold for Eddie, as well as Buck and Tommy. When you’re all caught up, be sure to tune into the new episode on Thursday, November 7 on ABC.
