9-1-1 Fans Receive Some Great News From ABC About the Franchise’s Upcoming Seasons

9-1-1 and its upcoming spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville will premiere on ABC sooner than expected. The Alphabet Network has announced earlier premiere dates for the two 9-1-1 series as well as Grey’s Anatomy.

Per Deadline, the season premieres of 9-1-19-1-1: Nashville, and Grey’s Anatomy have all been moved up a week. After setting a Thursday, Oct. 16 premiere date for the three dramas earlier this month, ABC has now bumped up the shows’ premiere date to Thursday, Oct. 9. 9-1-1 will kick off the night at 8 p.m. with its ninth season premiere, followed by the series premiere of new spinoff 9-1-1: Nashville at 9 p.m. Grey’s Anatomy, which holds the distinction of the longest-running medical drama on television, will close out the night with its Season 22 premiere at 10 p.m. ABC made no other premiere date changes to its Fall 2025 schedule.

Director Francis Banting (Sean T. Krishnan) talking to Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), Howie Han (Kenneth Choi), Evan Buckley (Oliver Stark) and Hen Wilson (Aisha Hinds)

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, 9-1-1 explores the high-stakes professional and personal lives of Los Angeles first responders, from firefighters to police officers and paramedics. The show’s ensemble cast features Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, and Gavin McHugh. The upcoming ninth season of 9-1-1 will be the third on ABC and the first without Krause’s Bobby Nash, who heroically sacrificed himself to save his team near the end of the eighth season.

Hewitt recently opened up about returning to work on 9-1-1 without Krause, sharing, “It’s not the same. Nothing is the same. But I do think that, you know, when you’re telling a story about first responders, unfortunately, those are the things that happen. [Krause] was the person that mattered to everyone in the cast the most. He was our hero. And he always will be.”

Who Will Be the New Captain of Station 118?

The last season of 9-1-1 ended with LAFD Station 118 still without a new captain following Bobby’s death. It has not been confirmed yet who might succeed Bobby in the role, although actor Oliver Stark doesn’t think it will be his character, Evan “Buck” Buckley. “It’s a job that Buck probably sees himself one day hoping to do, but I don’t think he would feel comfortable wanting that position now. I think he looks at Hen and Chimney and he’s like, ‘Those are the people that I look up to,'” he explained. “They’re every bit cut from the same cloth as Bobby was, and I think he’d have nothing but admiration and respect for Chimney in the role.”

It’s unknown yet if there are plans for 9-1-1 to crossover with its latest franchise offshoot, 9-1-1: Nashville, which will focus on the heroic first responders in the Tennessee city while also telling a family saga of power and glamour. The main cast for 9-1-1: Nashville includes Chris O’Donnell, Jessica Capshaw, LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley. O’Donnell, who recently wrapped a 14-season run as Special Agent G. Callen on NCIS: Los Angeles, will lead the spinoff as Captain Don Sharpe, “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son. Don’s a devoted husband and family man, but he has his secrets.”
